Clean India Campaign Launched at Qutab Minar

Seeking support of corporates and PSUs for the Clean India campaign, Tourism Minister Subodh Kant Sahai today launched the pilot project at QutabMinar aimed at improving the conditions at heritage sites to attract more tourists.

“There will be about 100 monuments to be taken up in the PPP model under the Clean India campaign to keep these tourist sites neat and clean and environment friendly,” Sahai said after launching the project.

The projects involves round the clock garbage clearance, drinking water facilities, maintenance of parking lots and toilets and proper signages at the heritage complex among others.

“The campaign will be carried out in the PPP model with the involvement of PSUs and corporates. I am convening a meeting of PSUs and corporates to work out the details,” he said.

India Tourism Development Corporation (ITDC), the PSU under the ministry, is entrusted with the pilot project at QutabMinar.

A global school for Responsible Tourism in Kerala

To make tourism industry more reliable and sustainable and for the proper implementation of new tourism practices, Kerala is getting ready to impart lessons on this to all those engaged in the industry across the globe. Responsible Tourism (RT), the new trend in tourism sector in several parts of the globe has made much progress in Kerala. For this, a school meant for teaching Responsible Tourism would soon be set up in Thiruvananthapuram, the capital city of Kerala.

Kerala Institute of Tourism and Travel Studies (KITTS), the nodal agency appointed to implement Responsible Tourism in the State is all set to launch this project. The proposed school will give training to bureaucrats and administrators in the State and also to local people. The training will be a capacity-building programme for those who are part of the tourism initiative.

This two-year training programme will cover topics like good energy management, waste management, better environment practices and water management.

Coming February, enjoy the magnificent spectacle of Gajamela (elephant pageant) at the Parthasarathy Temple in Adoor. The Gajamela is part of the ten-day annual celebration held at the temple. Commonly called by the name Adoor Gajamela, this pageant would have about nine elephants caparisoned. Thousands of people throng the temple premises to witness this extraordinary spectacle. Parthasarathy Temple is dedicated to Lord Krishna, who is also known as Parthasarathy – the charioteer of Parthan. Partha is another name of Arjuna, who is one of the five Pandava princes in the epic Mahabharata.
